Stewart & Winfield and Athens label Iron Horse Record release the band’s seventh title Sandy Britches on Friday, July 11th – a from-the-vault collection of instantly-recognizable new songs and older, re-worked favorites. With a concert log of over 1,200 appearances from Nashville to New York, Tallahassee to Telluride, and Montana to Maine, Stewart & Winfield have seen several hundred thousand miles of highway taking the studio to the stage to bring the evolution of their Americana sound to enthusiastic listeners. S & W continue to play markets blending the blues, folk, rock, bluegrass and country influences together for the requested, refreshing, original music. They have been working hard as Athens music ambassadors for almost 20 years! Singer-performers and Savannah, Georgia natives Stewart Marshall and Winfield Smith began entertaining Savannah and Athens together in 1989 and expanded the shows to Colorado mountain towns through 1994. Six albums would follow over the next 13 years along with an exhaustive touring schedule. Too country for rock and too rock n’ roll for country, Stewart & Winfield’s “Y’all-ternative, Harmony-Driven Roots Rock” experience is loved by old and new fans as good songs and good times flavored by that Georgia sense of place that cuts through the music and lyrics. The Stewart & Winfield name is associated with Southeastern songwriting, memorable stage performances, numerous soul-satisfying studio recordings, and a selection of band musicians of tasty talents all offering a memorable atmosphere of both small-town and city energy. In early 2007, S & W celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the debut album release with a concert at the world famous Georgia Theatre venue in Athens, and kicked-off a series of shows in favorite past and present markets. On July 11th, Stewart & Winfield return to the Georgia Theatre to release their best studio recording to date, the anxiously-awaited album, “Sandy Britches”. |
